Center for Multicultural Competence in Health Care Organizations (CMCHO)

Multicultural populations in America...

  • Represent over 30% of total population
  • Suffer and die disproportionately from diseases that are highly treatable
  • Have a buying power in excess of $1.3 trillion

The Center for Multicultural Competence in Health Care Organizations (CMCHO) is an independent organization created to certify health care organizations in the area of multicultural competence. Using the standards developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, CMCHO conducts on-site surveys of health care organizations. Its members evaluate leadership attitudes, beliefs and behaviors, current policies and procedures and resulting clinical outcomes.

Cooper Research has been associated with CMCHO since its inception. Cooper Research is devoted to improving the multicultural competence of health care providers. For CMCHO, Cooper routinely conducts mapping studies to assist hospitals in identifying population patterns in their geographical areas and image/awareness studies in hospital markets to understand which hospitals are preferred by multicultural populations.
